This was our first ever Rolex 24 experience, so we decided to go all out, purchasing tickets to the annual “Taste of the 24” event, which is a dinner including tapas-style entrees from tons of local restaurants put on by the Speedway. We arrived in Daytona Beach on Thursday, two days before the race, and were immediately impressed by the Aku Tiki’s beautiful, clean interior and great location – right on the beach, just like we wanted! The staff even welcomed us with freshly baked cookies upon checking in! We spent Friday lounging by the pool and enjoyed a great meal at The Ocean Deck for dinner – we decided to walk, and took a leisurely stroll on the beach to the restaurant before having a few cocktails and fresh fish sandwiches and steamed clams.
On Friday, the day of the race, we grabbed our morning meal in The Grand Bahama Room at The Aku Tiki, which provides a complimentary continental breakfast each day. This was an amenity that we greatly appreciated as travelers on a budget hoping to spend some money on NASCAR and surf shop souvenirs! We decided to head out to the track pretty early, eager to enjoy all of the racing related festivities we could before the beginning of the Taste of the 24 and, of course, the race itself. We were not disappointed or bored in the slightest – the area around the track was crowded with spectators and vendors, and the food everywhere was delicious. From family friendly games to countless food and alcohol vendors, the race was exciting and busy from start to finish.
Here’s a taste of the action:
We loved our stay at The Aku Tiki – it was perfect for us, a couple who wanted to enjoy both the beach and NASCAR – the best of both worlds when it comes to Daytona’s multitude of attractions!
