Building
Gateway Center for the Arts presents 3 - weeks of Summer Workshops
for teens and pre-teens from June 9 - June 27. No class week of
July 4th. This program will include 10-15 year olds. Workshops
take place at the DAL Studio Center, 155 So. Highway 17-92, suite
B- in DeBary from 9:30AM to 4:30PM. Instructors: Sandra Wilson and
Linda Weiler. Cost: $110n - ($95m) per week. M/C and Visa

June 9-13 - Images I - Skill Building: Life Studies - Students will
develop skills in portraitures and figure study (clothed, of
course) through family photographs and live modeling. Methods and
mediums: sketching in pencil, acrylic painting, paper sculpture,
clay modeling, paper mache.
June 16-20 - Images II - Skill building: Inspired by the master,
students will design and create fantasy furnishings. i.e. Van
Gogh's cane chair/vase of sunflowers, blooms of iris, etc.
Methods and mediums: Bas relief on tiles, paper mache, clay, paper
sculpture, sketching skills, basket making, weaving and painting.
June 23-27 - Images III - Skill building: Students will design and
create a miniature home and room boxes from their imagination
complete with miniature furnishings and family. The home of their
dream may be a log cabin, futuristic in design, or modeled from the
home they live in. Methods and mediums: sketching skills in
design, mix medium, paper sculpture, clay work, weaving, painting,
hand sewing, etc.
Challenge - Sculpture Workshop for Teens/Pre-Teens:
July 7-August 1 - ages 12 - 16 years old
Cost: $400 for members/ $480
non-members
Objective: Students will create a permanent work to be installed on
the grounds of newly built Gateway Center for the Arts for
continued public enjoyment.
Students will be involved in three -dimensional visual arts using
mediums such as clay, wire, foam core board, paper mache and stone.
Students will work independently on their own unique projects
guided by experienced teachers.
Students will jointly produce a single work to be permanently
installed on grounds at Gateway Center for the Arts' Grand
Opening Ceremony in January 2009.
The four week workshop includes a power point presentation of the
loss wax technique, and the ancient/modern techniques of creating
bronze sculpture by a representative from American Bronze Fine Art
Foundry in Sanford, Florida.
Challenge is a Summer Workshop of excellence. It offers
opportunity for students to develop art skills and techniques in
three dimensional works of art. It will help to build self
confidence, expression of emotions, promote problem solving, sense
of well-being, self-satisfaction, and education of historical
figures (master artists).
